Hand Ranges are groupings of starting hands, usually referring to an opponent’s likely two card holdings. Ranges are determined by the ranking of starting hands from best to worse in percentage form. Understanding Hand Ranges is important for visualizing an opponent’s potential holding. This is especially true when playing online and using HUDs.

If someone is opening 20% of all hands, we can make a reasonable assumption that they are opening with the best 20% of hands in most cases. This can help us understand what their most likely holdings are.
